“For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!” Romans 5:17
We can easily fall into a trap of believing that we need to act behave a certain way to be righteous, but it doesn’t work that way. None of us can do it because we are human. God gives us His righteousness like a robe we put on, we wear it and walk in it because HE IS our righteousness and He wants to share it with us. We don’t deserve it and we cannot earn it - it’s really a free gift - just like grace.
