God promises to bring us through the valley of the shadow of death, not deliver us from it or take us around it. This valley looks different for each of us, sickness, financial problems, broken relationships, and dealing with death. Struggles, hardship and trials are guaranteed, but so is our Lords comfort, compassion, help and faithfulness.
Following the paths of God’s will and destiny for each of us can be frightening at times. But for me, the worst times in my life were when I wasn’t in His Will and I was going my own way. But even then, God was with me showing me how to get back on track when I’d finally listen.
“His rod and His staff comfort me...” Think about that for a minute. Why doesn’t it say His arms wrap me up and comfort me or something like that? It says we get comfort from His shepherd’s staff and rod - these are the tools a shepherd uses to lead, guide, discipline, and protect the sheep from wolves.
