This is such a good definition of the pride that so easily entangles us - thinking of ourselves more highly than we should. It is encouraged by our society to build “self-esteem,” but we must be VERY CAREFUL that we don’t become prideful - or accept sin in ourselves as “OK.” Be careful to discern the teaching of books and leadership gurus and to measure it by the word of God, not by how many followers they have.
“I’m speaking to you out of deep gratitude for all that God has given me, and especially as I have responsibilities in relation to you. The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he does for us, not by what we are and what we do for him.” Romans 12:3
