Do you do this too? I am known to be pretty self-reliant and independent. When I was younger, this was very important to me. I wanted to be able to “take care of myself.” Not know that, I prided myself on it… if I asked for help then I had somehow failed. I learned, though, that God didn’t create me to be all I need. He created me to depend on Him and to be interdependent on my community. He said that it’s not good for us to be alone at the very beginning, and this has not changed.
This doesn’t mean that we don’t take the initiative or leadership, it just means that we do it in step with God, in humility and in faith. He tells us to put our confidence in Him, not in our human abilities and intelligence. We need His perspective and wisdom! In fact, oftentimes we need it more when we think we need it less. This is our pride again! I have to resist the temptation to trust my own wisdom, and pursue the will of the Lord all the time. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
