When I read this quote, I thought of all the “prosperity preaching” I’ve heard. I remembered hearing that it was a sign of faith and faithfulness - “the blessing of Abraham.” It’s easy to get this all out of balance.
Yes, God promises blessings to those who obey Him. Jesus explained that the blessings He came to give were in our hearts, not our bank accounts - that it’s more difficult for a rich man to be saved than it is for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle. Love, peace and joy are ours as children of God, but troubles and tribulations are ours too. Jesus told us that we’d always have trouble - always - and that we might have to suffer for our faith for a little while.
